Next Update Previous Update

7/22/2010 5:56:12 PM

Two things to update you on today. First, we made a little more progress on the building. I worked for about 3 hours this morning and was able to get a lot of the sheetrock done on the walls. Then, I went to Mission, Texas and picked up Santos who came back and helped me with the ceiling. We completed about 1/2 the ceiling. He and his brother are coming back Saturday to finish. Also, today the doors arrived and they look really good. I still need to seal/stain them and buy/install the locks. Once we finish the drywall we can put the rest of the trim on inside and install the door closers. They are also waiting to install the threshold until after we have the tile floor installed. But, it's progress. Then, the second bit of news is about rain. We have scattered showers/thunderstorms forecast for the next 5 days. Normally that isn't a problem, but since our river is already flooded it presents some challenges. The arroyos (creeks) that feed the river can't drain, so almost ANY rain will make them flood. There is also a new tropical depression forming in the Gulf of Mexico, but it is expected to hit in Mid-Mexico, rather than coming up as far as us. In any rate, please continue to pray that God would protect us from that. So far He has, and we are extremely grateful. Enjoy the photos.

Sheetrock just waiting for me.

This wall is in progress. Notice the last window being cut out by a magical drywall saw.

Okay, it's not magical it was just waiting for me to return.

The front wall is almost done. Just need to get above the door, but can't do that until the ceiling is done.

This side wall is about the same...waiting on the ceiling.

This side wall is also waiting on the ceiling.

I reached the platform on the side wall...woo-hoo!

The doors are here and are being installed.

More work on the doors. You can also see our progress on the ceiling. It really is hard to hang sheetrock on the ceiling with just 2 guys.

Santos is a member at Iglesia Bautista Betania in Mission and came out to help for the day.

A look at the doors from inside. I have to hang the sheetrock above the doors before they can install the trim and the closers.

A look at everything from outside. It's starting to come together, little by little. I'll personally be happy when all of the paint matches!
