Updates for 2006 - October

2006 10-30
We've moved again.  Today we arrived in Stone Mountain, Georgia.  We've driven by this area a few times and now we get to stop.  We're staying at Stone Mountain Park, which is simply massive.  We should be able to get some photos up in the next few days.  We look forward to the service Sunday night and also getting to know some other preachers that I need to meet with while we are in the area.

The week at Nebo went by very quickly.  The pictures below are from the International Dinner on the 28th.  We are very thankful for everything the people at Nebo did for us and look forward to continuing to work with them for years to come.
Braden and I are practicing some special music that we will use either tonight or tomorrow morning. August and Addie also have some special music that they need to get ready for.  The youth of the church made special posters for the missions conference.  These are judged and the winner receives $50 that they can give to any missionary. A closer view of one of the winning posters.  One of the young girls decided to give us the $50 that she won!  What a blessing.
This cheese "ball" was not only beautiful, but also delicious! If you left this dinner hungry it's your own fault.  There was a on of food and it was all good! Braden is helping to make the punch. The food isn't the only good thing around here.  The fellowship is wonderful as well.
August and Jonathan (the pastor's son) spend some time together.

Another conference begins tomorrow.  We have arrived safely in Nebo, North Carolina and are setup and ready to go.  We spent most of the day getting household chores taken care of, including cleaning and laundry, so that we will be ready for the conference tomorrow.  Nebo First Baptist Church is allowing us to make use of their facilities, and we appreciate their willingness to do so.
Nebo First Baptist Church looks small from this distance and view, but they actually have wonderful facilities, which they have maintained very nicely.  Their service times include a 6:00p Wednesday night service in Spanish. Our home sits beside the educational building, behind and down the hill from the main sanctuary.  Level concrete or asphalt pads always make setting up so much easier! We are looking forward to meeting another group of God's people who are striving to serve Him in their local community.

Good news!  The people who looked at our home yesterday decided to make an offer, and we now have another contract.  These buyers seem to be 100% able to afford the home (it is a downsizing for them) and we are praying that closing will be able to occur on November 14th.  Lord willing we will be able to finalize this part of our move to Texas quickly.

2006 10-22
Hard to believe the conference is already over.  We had a wonderful closing service tonight and we were blessed to receive an extremely generous financial offering from the church.  We have enjoyed every moment of our stay here and look forward to seeing these dear people again as the Lord allows!
Melissa and Giovanni. Melissa and Flo, an Hispanic woman who was a BIG help in fine tuning Melissa's Spanish while we were there! The International Banquet tonight offered delicious, abundant food from around the world.

Party at the Pastor's house.  Today all of the missionaries, their families, and the MMBC Missions Committee enjoyed a time of fellowship at the home of Pastor Alvis.  There was food in abundance, and the time spent together was a blessing to all.

The Mt. Moriah Baptist Church 3rd annual missions conference has begun and we are having a great time.  The people are extremely friendly (of course, they are home folk) and the meetings have been a blessing and encouragement.
Braden practices on the piano while Melissa speaks with Mrs. Alvis. The main sanctuary at Mt. Moriah Baptist Church. An outside view of the church, with the sanctuary foreground and the fellowship hall/education building to the right. It is our privilege to get to stay with Mr. & Mrs. David Ellinghausen, and their family.  We are enjoying our time of fellowship with them, as well as some delicious meals!
Tonight Addie and August had an opportunity to do a special song together.

2006 10-16
It's the 16th and no closing is scheduled.  The buyers simply could not get the financing.  The house went back on the market Saturday evening, and we had two showings Sunday afternoon.  No response from those yet.  We also enjoyed celebrating Addie Grace's birthday this weekend.  We also enjoyed attending our home church Sunday, baptizing Addie Grace in the morning service and speaking to the various youth groups in the evening.  It's our last chance to fellowship with them until at least the beginning of December.
Preparing to baptize Addie Grace. Addie coming back up out of the water.

2006 10-11
Sorry for the long delay in getting another update out here.  We've been busy around our "real" house finishing up repairs to get ready for the closing on the 16th.  The repairs are completed, but the buyers are having trouble with financing.  Please be in prayer that everything will work out with this sale.  Other than that, things are pretty good.  Both of our boys got hurt playing around the past couple of days, but nothing life altering.  We have had a few walk-in meetings and are looking forward to a missions conference with Mt. Moriah Baptist Church here in Powhatan next week.

2006 10-3
I prayed this morning that the Lord would give us 4 new supporting churches this month.  This evening I received an email notifying us that Corinth Baptist Church in Loganville, Georgia took us on as a missionary family!  It's a great blessing to have another church supporting our work, and is an even bigger blessing coming on the heels of a petition to our Savior for such an event to occur!  We look forward to seeing if He will say YES to the other 3 this month as well!

2006 10-3
Yesterday we were able to visit with the congregation of People's Baptist Church during both the morning and evening services.  It was a great experience and we enjoyed another very warm reception.  One of the hardest things we have to do during deputation is leave the churches we visit!  The churches open their hearts to receive us, and we cannot adequately express what this means to us!  Today we will be traveling from Virginia Beach, Virginia back to Powhatan, Virginia, where we will be staying for the next 3 weeks.  We have much planned during this time, and will be making some preparations for winter living in the RV, which is something that promises to be a unique experience!  We also look forward to completing the sale of our home during this time, which is a great YES answer to a long-standing prayer.
